Translating SEL and Personalized Learning into Higher Reading Scores
SLCSD has created a three-part plan to implement technology throughout the district. More specific details can be found on the SLCSD Innovation Configuration Map for Technology Integration.
1. Build an SLCSD Technology Framework (hardware, productivity software, and learning management systems) that all teachers can use to manage and organize their professional work and classroom learning environments.
• All teachers and students are fluent in the use of district tools (Canvas, Microsoft 365, PowerSchool, and Nearpod) and other approved and appropriate curriculum applications.
• All teachers will have the knowledge and background to promote digital citizenship and online safety.
2. Develop content-specific, technology enhanced learning strategies that support appropriate technology support in classrooms and online or remote learning situations.
• Teachers can choose and use technology tools that address specific learning objectives and create opportunities for personalized learning within a class or content area.
3. Create models for technology-enhanced learning with demonstration/lab sites (one elementary, one secondary) and secondary content technology leaders (CTLs) with deep support and a focus on developing teacher leadership in technology integration.
Alignment with the Salt Lake City School District Strategic Plan
The Salt Lake City School District Student Achievement Plan (SAP) can be found here. This application supports the SAP. The Salt Lake City Board of Education has also placed emphasis on student literacy and social emotional learning.
Our DTL plan will focus on integrating instructional content with technology. Teachers will use technology to identify the literacy improvement needs of their students. Additionally, focusing on digital citizenship and collaboration using appropriate technology tools and conversation structures will help support district social emotional learning initiatives.
This DTL plan directly supports our district’s strategic plan and helps to support the mission we have of excellence and equity: every student, every classroom, every day.
1. Developing the SLCSD Technology Framework
Educator devices
We will continue to use DTL funds to provide laptops for teachers. Providing laptops allows teachers to have greater accessibility to data and tools in the classroom, PLC meetings, trainings, and other meetings.
Professional learning at appropriate levels
Educators will participate in appropriate and differentiated instruction based on the SLCSD Innovation Configuration Map for Technology Implementation (IC Map).
Part 1 includes courses for implementation of basic tools that each teacher should be able to use and implement daily. This will focus on the ability to use tools for first teachers and then students.
Digital citizenship and internet safety for all schools
Digital Citizenship and internet safety are important because with the wide variety of internet tools available, it is vital that our teachers know what to look for to keep their students safe using online tools.
2. Implementing Technology-Enhanced Learning Strategies
Part 2 includes support to identify, learning, and integrate content-appropriate programs and tools that enable students to use technology to learn in a different way. These could include Nearpod, FlipGrid, etc., as well as data- driven programs that support learning.
3. Creating models for technology-enhanced learning
Two schools (secondary and elementary) Our target populations will be the two schools that are selected from the annual application process. We have chosen to focus on two schools each year in order to allow us to better focus on the unique needs of each selected population as we focus on providing differentiated professional development and implementation of technology-enhanced instruction.
Long Term Outcome: The goals of the district are to increase literacy by as evidenced by a 3% increase in reading scores by the end of year 5 and to improve students’ social-emotional learning by a 2% decrease in negative behaviors each year including cyberbullying, AUP violations, school suspensions, and absentee rates.
Developing Content Technology Leaders (CTLs)
Teachers need to learn the tools, which can be done in trainings on the fundamentals of each program, and then how to use it specifically within their content area. CTLs will apply from secondary schools in each content area (ELA, Mathematics, Social Studies, Fine Arts, Science, Health/PE, and World Languages) with a portfolio of existing integration and statement of intent.

Implementation of Grant in this School:
Sharing digitally so we can all have input on things and not have to have a meeting. Students sharing more with teachers and actually contacting teachers more for the class outside of the classroom setting.

Implementation of Grant in this School:
Our students use technology to access a supplemental online math program (ST Math), a supplemental online reading program Lexia. They use technology to access digital texts for science and to use class assignment management programs (Canvas, Edmodo, etc.). They use it for writing, research, completing research projects, creating books, and doing presentations. The students also complete all summative assessments digitally. The teachers use technology lesson preparation, lesson presentation (SmartBoard), professional development, research, student behavior management and sharing information with parents (Class Dojo). They use technology to monitor student progress, review and analyze data for instructional decision-making, addressing student needs and developing tools for formative assessment . We use technology everyday in many, many different ways.
